## Description

Plastic Pirates is a collaborative campaign aimed at addressing the urgent issue of plastic pollution in Europe’s waterways. Launched in 2020, the initiative encourages schools and youth groups across 13 European countries to participate in collecting plastic waste along rivers and coastal areas. Participants gather vital data on the volume and types of waste found, contributing to important research on aquatic pollution. The project highlights the significance of rivers as essential lifelines, demonstrating how even small inland waterways connect to the larger ocean systems. Through standardized guidelines and collaborative efforts, the collected data will be visualized on an interactive map, fostering awareness around the protection of natural resources. The Plastic Pirates initiative not only promotes citizen science but also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in environmental conservation. Supported by the European Union's Horizon Europe programme, this groundbreaking project aims to inspire commitment to preserving our precious aquatic ecosystems for future generations. Join the Plastic Pirates to make a tangible difference in safeguarding our environment.
