## Description

The TOM FORD Plastic Innovation Accelerator, powered by Lonely Whale, is a multi-year initiative focused on reducing plastic waste entering the ocean. It is part of Unwrap the Future, launched by Lonely Whale in 2020 to identify and scale biologically degradable alternatives to traditional thin-film plastic, commonly used in packaging. The program began with the TOM FORD Plastic Innovation Prize, a global competition for scalable alternatives to plastic polybags, and awarded a $1.2 million prize combining cash awards and direct investment. Its winners—Sway, Zerocircle, and Notpla—develop seaweed-based packaging materials. In its second phase, the Accelerator brings together partners to help advance market adoption of these innovations through catalytic collaborations. The initiative is sponsored by TOM FORD BEAUTY and The Estée Lauder Companies. Its work is supported by scientific and technical advisers, investment partners, and testing organizations; prize materials underwent laboratory and field testing, including research in Caribbean and Pacific Northwest waters.
