Pleco Inc. Founded in 2000 by Michael Love, Pleco Software emerged from Michael's personal struggle to expand his Chinese vocabulary during his stay in China. Frustrated by the time it took to look up words in traditional paper-based dictionaries, Michael developed a makeshift Chinese-English dictionary for his Palm IIIx.

The overwhelming response from fellow students inspired Michael to turn this venture into a full-time business. Since then, Pleco Inc. With a commitment to customer satisfaction, Pleco has allowed users from its earlier platforms to seamlessly transition to newer ones.

Not only is Pleco one of the oldest e-book stores globally, but it has also paved the way for innovative features and licensed dictionaries. Pleco's all-in-one dictionary, combining Chinese fonts, handwriting input, flashcards, audio, and multiple dictionaries, revolutionized language learning tools. In 2010, Pleco gained significant attention for being the first company to introduce a live Chinese OCR system.
