## Description

The Maryland Polar Bear Plunge is an annual fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics Maryland, bringing communities together to support athletes and Unified teammates across the state. Held at Sandy Point State Park, the tradition invites participants to brave the icy waters of the Chesapeake Bay while raising money for year-round sports and leadership programs. The 2027 event runs from January 22 through January 30 and includes several ways to take part: the Super Plunge, Cool Schools Plunge, Police and Public Safety Plunge, Corporate Plunge, and Maryland Plunge. Participants can register, donate to a plunger, or support the event through sponsorship opportunities. The Super Plunge offers an extended winter-water challenge, while school, public safety, workplace, and community events provide options for different groups. Fundraising resources help plungers work toward their goals, and sponsors can gain event and media exposure while supporting inclusion. Donations fund free programs that help athletes develop fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and build friendships. The event’s 2027 fundraising goal is $4.75 million.
