## Description

The Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association (PMSBA) is a vibrant collective dedicated to preserving and promoting a cherished local tradition — the Mummers Parade, renowned as the oldest folk parade in the United States, celebrated every New Year’s Day. At the heart of this lively event is the String Band Division, a showcase of talented amateur musicians who rejoice in creating joyous melodies with an eclectic mix of instruments, including banjos, mandolins, violins, and drums, adhering to a unique sound that excludes brass.

Established in 1901, the Association has evolved to feature captivating choreographed performances that blend music and theatricality, resembling mini-musicals. The bands dedicate countless hours year-round perfecting their routines, enhancing the parade experience with elaborate props and stunning costumes. As a non-profit organization, PMSBA relies on community support, inviting you to contribute and enjoy the hearty tradition of music, dance, and fellowship that brings smiles to countless faces throughout the country and beyond.
