The PNG Institute of Medical Research (IMR) is committed to improving the health and well-being of the people of Papua New Guinea. As a leading research institution, we focus on studying major disease problems in the country to develop innovative solutions. Our dedicated team conducts research on various areas, including infections and immunity, vector-borne diseases such as malaria and filariasis, sexual and reproductive health, and population health and demography.

Through our cross-disciplinary approach, we aim to understand these diseases better and find new methods for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. We also prioritize training for staff and students, ensuring that our team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. In addition, we have a wide range of publications available in our library, both online and through subscriptions.

Located in Goroka, the IMR is soon to be housed in a state-of-the-art laboratory office complex in Madang, Madang Province.
