About
Description
Pacific Northwest Invasive Plant Council (PNW-IPC) is one of the four regional Plant Councils established through the National Association of Invasive Plant Councils. Originally known as the Pacific Northwest Exotic Pest Plant Council (PNW EPPC) in 1993, the council was later revived and renamed in 2007 to become the Pacific Northwest Invasive Plant Council. Covering the states of Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, as well as the Provinces of British Columbia and Yukon, PNW-IPC is dedicated to protecting the Pacific Northwest's land and waters from ecologically-damaging invasive plants.
Their mission is achieved through a wide range of activities including scientific research, education, policy advocacy, and an on-the-ground citizen science monitoring and eradication program. PNW-IPC aims to facilitate communication, promote information exchange on invasive plant status and management, educate the public and legislators on the impacts of invasive plants, support research efforts, provide advisory services, and review and share updated information on invasive plant management. They also conduct regular conferences, produce evaluated lists of plants of concern, coordinate mapping and control projects, and advocate for support at various levels.
PNW-IPC strives to prevent invasions, produce educational materials, and establish an early detection warning system. By working closely with agencies, universities, NGOs, and industries, such as the nursery industry, PNW-IPC aims to protect the region's landscapes for future generations
