## Description

The Poetry Foundation is a Chicago-based organization dedicated to poetry and the literary arts. Its history is closely connected to Poetry magazine, founded in Chicago by Harriet Monroe in 1912. The foundation publishes the magazine and provides readers with access to poems, poets, interviews, essays, reviews, and other features exploring poetry and its cultural context. Its website includes the magazine’s current and past issues, a historical index, and an archive spanning more than a century, alongside collections, poem guides, and educational resources for adults, children, teens, and educators.

The organization also supports poetry through grants, awards, events, exhibitions, library partnerships, and other programs. Readers can explore work by contemporary and historical poets, discover translations and discussions of poetic forms, submit poetry to the magazine, or subscribe to print and digital offerings. Newsletters, podcasts, videos, and Poetry’s mobile app provide additional ways to engage with its content. Through publishing, public programming, and accessible resources, the Poetry Foundation connects audiences with poetry and supports its appreciation and practice.
