The brand was founded in 2010 in Vancouver, BC by Flo Devellennes, who was inspired to start the service after picking up hitchhikers while driving to Whistler Mountain, realizing the difficulties and expenses of traveling without a car.

Poparide started as a website to connect people driving to the mountains with passengers looking for rides, but it quickly grew beyond serving local skiers. In 2014, Flo partnered with Luke Burden to expand the service across Canada, launching a new platform and mobile app. Today, Poparide is used by thousands of people across the country, offering a community-based platform that focuses on reducing driving costs, environmental impact, and bringing people together to share experiences in the real world.
