## Description

The Society for Popular Astronomy (SPA) is a UK-based organisation founded in 1953 for people interested in astronomy. It welcomes beginners and experienced observers, offering practical guidance and opportunities to learn, observe and share discoveries with fellow members. Its bimonthly Popular Astronomy magazine is exclusive to members and features articles on astronomy and related topics.

The SPA provides online resources for getting started, including advice on observing the sky, learning constellations, and choosing and using telescopes and binoculars. Members can explore specialist observing sections covering subjects such as the Moon, planets, meteors, comets, auroras, the Sun and deep-sky objects, with opportunities to receive expert advice and contribute observations. The society also publishes news and observing updates, runs meetings, offers videos and residential weekend courses, and supports young astronomers. A newsletter, members’ area, forum and shop are among its other offerings. Through these services, the SPA helps people build their astronomy knowledge, develop observing skills and connect with a community that shares their interest in the night sky.
