Prachatai English is an independent, non-profit web newspaper established in June 2004 with a mission to provide the Thai public with reliable news and information, particularly during challenging times for media freedom. Founded by a diverse group of concerned Thais, including journalists, Senate members, and NGO leaders, Prachatai strives to promote democratic values and civil society engagement. 

Since launching its English-language platform in 2007, Prachatai English has focused on underreported issues concerning democratization and human rights in Thailand, often facing legal and governmental pressures.
