## Description

Preaching as Celebration is an educational initiative focused on helping preachers develop a celebrative style of African American preaching and bring their best work to the pulpit. Its course explores preaching as both a theological practice and a persuasive, rhetorical act, drawing on the approaches of Henry H. Mitchell and Frank A. Thomas. Participants study how the Bible shapes Christian identity and witness, engage major theological themes and the heritage of Christianity, and consider the church’s mission. The program also emphasizes practical growth through preaching, encouraging students to connect theological reflection with the celebrative dimensions of the gospel. Alongside skill development, it highlights the preacher’s spiritual maturity, including self-acceptance and self-direction, and the value of giving and receiving honest feedback in a peer setting. The initiative presents preaching competence as an important part of forming disciples. The website provides information about the course, Dr. Frank Thomas, and ways to make contact, as well as a blog and event listings.
