## Description

Preserving Spaces is a heritage preservation initiative focused on documenting historic buildings and sharing the local stories connected to them. Recognizing that time, use, disasters, and redevelopment can damage or erase significant places, the organization uses virtual reality and digital media to preserve sites and make them accessible to the public. Its work aims to encourage appreciation for local history, including the smaller stories that might otherwise be overlooked.

Preserving Spaces presents digital projects featuring locations across the region, including Alexander Farms, the McCoy Slave Cemetery, the Cornelius Cotton Gin, and the Barringer Hotel in Charlotte. The Barringer Hotel project, created in partnership with Mecklenburg County, records the story of a building that once stood at 7th and Tryon. It served as both a hotel and low-income housing before becoming abandoned and ultimately being demolished.

The organization also publishes a Field Journal with behind-the-scenes updates, industry articles, podcast episodes, and project news.
