## Description

The President and the Bomb is a research and public-information project focused on the history, policy, and future of political command and control of nuclear weapons. Based at the Stevens Institute of Technology, the project initially examines presidential unilateral control of nuclear weapons in the United States, with the longer-term ambition of addressing the systems of other nuclear-armed nations. It is run by Avner Cohen of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and Alex Wellerstein of Stevens.

The project aims to organize and share information that can support academic, policy, and public discussion, while clarifying the historical, political, and technical questions involved. Its website serves as an evolving information hub, offering resources such as introductory primers, a document library, a bibliography, a topic explorer, reports, and news. The project received seed funding from the Ploughshares Fund and is administered through Stevens’ College of Arts and Letters. The site is described as a beta demonstration that is actively being updated, rather than a finished public resource.
