Presidio of San Francisco is an iconic brand that aims to create a sense of welcome, belonging, and inclusion through art. Recognizing the power of art as a medium, Presidio strives to engage new audiences by incorporating art into their offerings. One of their current focuses is at the Presidio Tunnel Tops, where temporary installations provide visitors with unique and immersive experiences in the park. Ancestral Futurism, a captivating outdoor mural installation by Favianna Rodriguez, is a prime example. This artwork honors the diversity and interconnectedness of humanity, while also shedding light on the colonial and repressive history of the Presidio. By uplifting the stories and experiences of BIPOC communities, the installation sparks conversations about justice, freedom, and belonging. Visitors can still see parts of Ancestral Futurism in front of the Presidio Visitor Center, as well as banners in the Presidio Plaza and Outpost Plaza. Presidio also offers other notable art installations, such as Iconic Visions by Felicia Gabaldon. Through these public art mentorship programs, Presidio promotes inclusivity and aims to position itself as a place of welcome for all.
