## Description

The Prison Reform Trust (PRT) is an independent UK charity working to create a just, humane and effective penal system. It seeks to reduce the use of prison, improve conditions for prisoners, and promote equality and human rights across the criminal justice system. The organisation works to influence decision-makers, opinion formers and the public through research, policy engagement and public information.

PRT provides information and advice about prison for people in custody and those who know or support them, alongside facts and statistics about prisons and the wider penal system. Its publications include research reports, evaluations, briefings and consultation responses. The charity also supports members of parliament with briefing papers and proposed legislative amendments, and contributes to parliamentary work on penal affairs.

Its projects focus on reducing imprisonment and improving conditions for prisoners and their families. Featured initiatives include Prison: the Facts, the Prisoner Policy Network, Building Futures and work on Imprisonment for Public Protection.
