## Description

Progetto Hermetia specializes in breeding Hermetia illucens, also known as the black soldier fly, and providing natural insect-based nutrition for animals. Its online shop offers live larvae at different growth stages, low-temperature-dried larvae, and insect meal for poultry, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and other companion or farm animals. The company states that its insects are raised exclusively on plant-based substrates and presents its products as naturally rich in protein and calcium, with high digestibility.

Alongside retail products, Progetto Hermetia provides scheduled, customized supply plans for professional customers, including farms, agritourism businesses, educational farms, and wildlife recovery centers. It also offers a practical PDF guide to domestic Hermetia rearing, covering breeding, environmental conditions, harvesting, and storage. The project describes a research program dating to 2008 and a collaboration with the University of Messina’s Department of Biological Sciences, focused on insect biology, nutrition, and production. Its work combines animal-feed products, technical resources, and research into insect-based alternatives for animal nutrition, with an emphasis on controlled production and sustainability.
