## Description

Project ’44 is a historical research and mapping initiative that helps people explore the Second World War through original records and interactive maps. Its free map traces more than 150,000 unit positions across 15 nations, day by day, linking locations to scanned primary documents. The archive includes over 15,000 war diary pages and more than 10 million words, making it possible to search formations by name, date, or place and learn what happened in specific locations.

Beyond the map, Project ’44 offers a photo archive of geotagged wartime images, personal veteran case studies, interactive story maps, and in-depth research projects. These resources connect military movements and historical events with the experiences of individuals and communities, including stories of liberation and battles in Europe and beyond. The site also publishes historical articles, research updates, and live project dispatches.
