Description

Project Horseshoe Farm is a brand that offers a unique opportunity for college students, recent graduates, premedical students, public health students, and those interested in service and community health leadership. They provide a Community Health Gap Year and Internship program that allows individuals to gain hands-on experience in community health. Founded in 2007, Horseshoe Farm aims to improve community health and strengthen neighborhoods.

They offer a one-year Community Health Service Leadership Fellowship and Internships for undergraduate and health professions students. Participants work in teams and receive ongoing teaching and mentorship to learn from their pioneering multidimensional integrated approach to community health. Their volunteers, known as health partners, support seniors, adults with mental illness, and other isolated individuals.

They also assist in after-school programs and local schools, as well as develop and lead programs at community centers and volunteer with supported housing programs and nursing homes. Fellows and Interns live and learn in partner communities, including Greensboro, AL, Perry County, AL, and Pomona, CA. Project Horseshoe Farm has received recognition for their outstanding efforts, including the Lou Wooster Public Health Hero Award in 2020 and being selected as an Exemplary Community Partnership in 2019.

Through their biopsychosocial community health model, Horseshoe Farm focuses on individualized volunteer service, providing caring relationships and addressing psychosocial factors that impact the health and quality of life of vulnerable individuals. By building connections and supporting local partner organizations, they strengthen the institutional infrastructure and interconnection between institutions in the community. Join Project Horseshoe Farm today and contribute to their mission of improving the health and quality of life of vulnerable neighbors and preparing future community health and citizen service leaders
