Project Lifesaver is a renowned 501 (C)(3) community-based, public safety, non-profit organization that is dedicated to safeguarding individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to wandering. Founded in 1999 in Chesapeake, Virginia, Project Lifesaver has since grown into an internationally recognized program that effectively protects and quickly locates individuals with cognitive conditions. Blending state-of-the-art locating technologies, innovative search and rescue methods, and community policing courses, this program has proven to be the most widely used and effective method for keeping At Risk populations safe in our communities.

The process begins at the municipality level, where public safety agencies take charge of implementing the Project Lifesaver Program. Equipped with the necessary technologies and comprehensive training from Project Lifesaver International, these agencies establish a program that relies on radio technology and specially trained search and rescue teams. Citizens enrolled in the program wear a small transmitter emitting an individualized frequency signal.

If an enrolled client goes missing, trained emergency teams respond promptly using the individual's frequency to locate them swiftly. The program significantly reduces search time and saves lives.
