## Description

Protea Playing Cards is a proudly South African manufacturer known for quality playing cards since its founding in 1968. Established by Harry Roscoe to serve a niche market, the company grew into a household name and a globally recognised supplier. It began with cards for retail customers and later expanded into corporate advertising and casino markets. Today, Protea continues to produce decks with attention to detail, using quality materials and hand-checking each deck to support consistent standards.

The business has a long family history. Harry’s son Donavan joined in 1996, and in 2016 he took the lead as the company became part of House of Print, within the Caxton group. Protea offers a collection of playing cards and custom cards for businesses and other customers. Wholesale orders can be arranged directly, while smaller orders are available online through Canasta. With decades of experience and a focus on craftsmanship, Protea makes cards for play, collecting, and promotion, carrying forward a South African tradition enjoyed by generations.
