## Description

The Pacific Salmon Commission is a treaty-based international organization that manages and oversees the preservation of Pacific salmon in the United States and Canada. Established in 1985 after a series of negotiations, the Pacific Salmon Commission is responsible for implementing the Pacific Salmon Treaty, which sets long-term goals for the benefit of both salmon populations and the two countries. Composed of four Commissioners and four alternates from each country, the Pacific Salmon Commission represents the interests of commercial and recreational fisheries, as well as federal, state, and tribal governments. The Commission operates under the advice of four regional Panels of fisheries experts. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the Secretariat of the Pacific Salmon Commission provides administrative support and coordination. The Commission also oversees two bilateral Restoration and Enhancement funds, established in 1999, to support projects aimed at restoring and enhancing salmon populations. With its comprehensive approach and international collaboration, the Pacific Salmon Commission plays a vital role in the preservation and sustainable management of Pacific salmon.
