PSU-AAUP is a strong union community dedicated to creating a better future for Portland State University (PSU). By joining this large and influential membership, you can be part of the positive change that benefits students, staff, academic professionals, faculty, and the community as a whole. A healthy PSU is in everyone's best interest. With a focus on collective bargaining, PSU-AAUP actively works towards securing vital rights and benefits for its members. These include cost-of-living adjustments, health insurance benefits, sick leave and donated sick leave banks, higher salary minimums, pay equity pools, and expanded Individual Professional Development Accounts. The Staff Fee Privilege, disciplinary and grievance procedures, and academic freedom protections are also supported by this union. Being a member of PSU-AAUP comes with privileges. In addition to protection under the contract, members have the right to vote on union leadership ballots, collective bargaining agreements, and major union decisions. They can also run for office and serve on various teams, committees, and task forces. Membership with PSU-AAUP extends to the National AAUP and the Oregon Conference of the AAUP. Furthermore, affiliate membership with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) brings additional benefits. These include access to free trauma counseling, credit and budget counseling, assistance with student loan debt restructuring, scholarships and awards, and discount programs for pet insurance, life insurance, rental insurance, and more.
