# Pteridophyte Collections Consortium TCN

- **Website:** <https://pteridoportal.org>
- **Primary alias:** `pteridoportal.org`

## Description

PteridoPortal serves as the online gateway for the Pteridophyte Collections Consortium (PCC), dedicated to the study of pteridophytes, which include ferns, lycophytes, and their extinct seed-free relatives. This consortium recognizes the significant ecological role of approximately 12,000 pteridophyte species in contemporary terrestrial ecosystems, alongside their historical importance as the earliest plants to evolve roots and leaves, eventually forming forests. The PteridoPortal facilitates seamless access to a wealth of digitized data on both living and fossil specimens, aggregating resources from its initial 36 core member institutions and aiming to expand globally. By bridging gaps between research communities that traditionally focused on either living or fossil pteridophytes, the portal enhances collaboration and knowledge sharing. Users can explore extensive species checklists, taxonomic data, and a resource-rich media library. The PCC is committed to advancing the infrastructure and digitization of biological collections, supported by grants from the National Science Foundation's ADBC program. For further engagement, interested parties can follow PCC on social media or contact their support hub.
