## Description

Puheilo Oy is a speech therapy provider focused on rehabilitation for child clients. It serves as a provider for Kela’s demanding medical rehabilitation programme during the contract period that began in 2023, mainly in Pori, Ulvila and Kankaanpää, Finland. Therapy is provided in Finnish, with pictures, supported signs and quick drawing used when helpful. Sessions take place either at Puheilo’s accessible clinic in Tiilimäki, near Satasairaala, or in a child’s everyday setting, such as home, daycare or school. Guide dogs are welcome at the clinic, and clients may apply to Kela for travel reimbursement for journeys to in-person appointments.

Speech therapy is medical rehabilitation that assesses and supports speech, language, communication and voice, as well as eating and swallowing functions. Its aim is to improve a client’s ability to function and communicate. Rehabilitation may include guidance for the client’s close network and exercises to practise independently. Kela-funded therapy requires the relevant medical rehabilitation criteria to be met and a rehabilitation plan prepared by the treating provider.
