## Description

PUUR Foundation is a Dutch volunteer-led organisation working to make motherhood safer and more respectful in The Gambia. Closely connected with Verloskundig Centrum PUUR Vroedvrouwen in Arnhem, the foundation supports maternity care at Bwiam General Hospital. Its work responds to preventable maternal and infant deaths linked to shortages of medical supplies and training.

Since 2011, PUUR Foundation has organised annual training for hospital staff to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills. It also provides mothers with information and advice on subjects including breastfeeding and hygiene during the postnatal period. By sharing knowledge and enabling care providers and mothers to carry out essential tasks, the foundation aims to encourage safer births and greater independence.

In the Netherlands, volunteers collect unused items from maternity kits, other medical supplies and equipment, then arrange shipments to the hospital, typically four times a year. The organisation also welcomes financial donations to help cover shipping and training materials.
