QCMD is an international External Quality Assessment (EQA) organization that aims to monitor and improve quality within clinical laboratories. They offer EQA programmes that support the regulatory requirements of clinical laboratories, while also providing educational benefits. Participating laboratories are provided with samples that resemble clinically significant specimens and are required to test them using their routine assay and procedures.

The results and feedback are reported back to QCMD online. Laboratories receive individual reports that showcase their performance and provide insights on how they compare to other participants in their assessment group. QCMD also provides specific regional reports to national quality organizations.

As an accredited organization, QCMD places a strong emphasis on quality. They adhere to ISO standards and their EQA schemes are conducted according to a strict Code of Practice. The materials used in the programmes are manufactured to ISO standards as well.
