## Description

Queer Surf is a California-based community organization founded in 2016 by former professional surfer Kyla Langen and boogie-boarder Nic. It works to connect queer people with their bodies, the ocean, and an inclusive surf community, while supporting mental and physical wellness, expanding access to surf resources, and encouraging marine science and coastal stewardship. Its programs welcome transgender, non-binary, and queer participants, with events often open to allies and the wider public.

Activities include beach gatherings, surf camps, lessons and progression programs, art workshops, and ocean-focused events. The Summer Surf Series combines in-person water instruction with virtual learning about surfing, including boards, waves, and surf reports. Queer Surf also organizes community surf meetups and events featuring art, performances, music, skating, and opportunities to spend time outdoors. Some programs are designed for people who are already independent in the water; beginner lessons are not available at every event or camp. Scholarships for surf camps and lessons are supported by the Whale Tail Program Grant.
