Richard Rainwater created the Rainwater Charitable Foundation (RCF) in 1991 with a goal to make a positive impact on children's lives through education. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, RCF is a private family foundation that believes that high-quality education can change the trajectory of children and families. Initially focused on critical needs, RCF's education grant making has evolved to include a blend of school-based work and systems, recognizing the importance of schools as catalysts for change in communities and society.

In 2009, RCF established the Tau Consortium, dedicated to accelerating treatments for tauopathies, a class of neurodegenerative diseases. RCF has since expanded its medical research initiatives, all aimed at finding a cure for tauopathies. RCF follows Mr.

Rainwater's investment strategies in its giving practices, seeking programs with measurable success, strong leadership, and scalability for greater impact. They prioritize transformative solutions, value collaboration, and maintain a sense of urgency in their work.
