## Description

The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) is a UK charitable and professional society that encourages and promotes the study of astronomy, solar-system science, geophysics and related fields. It supports researchers, students and the wider public through a broad programme of scientific, educational and community activities.

The Society publishes and supports scholarly research through journals including Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Geophysical Journal International and RAS Techniques & Instruments. It shares research news and highlights, and provides opportunities for scientists to present and discuss their work at meetings, public lectures and other events. Its library and archives offer collections, research assistance and access to historical materials.

The RAS also supports the scientific community through fellowships, awards, medals, prizes and grants for studies in astronomy and geophysics. Its education and outreach work includes resources, events and a podcast, while its careers and early-career initiatives serve emerging researchers. Through public policy activities, consultative forums and engagement with industry, the Society contributes to discussions about science and its impact.
