## Description

The Center for Applied Rationality (CFAR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to exploring and practicing better ways of thinking in support of humanity’s future. It brings together people interested in rationality to test techniques, examine how minds work, and learn through shared discussion and practical activities. CFAR also publishes rationality-related writing by current and former staff, along with resources including a handbook, books, and a checklist.

From 2012 to early 2020, CFAR ran approximately 60 immersive workshops, typically lasting four and a half days and focused on practical rationality techniques. In 2025, the organization began inviting participants to gather and develop new ideas together, drawing on topics such as Eliezer Yudkowsky’s Sequences, beauty in projects, personal agency, and learning through real-world work. CFAR offers workshops, provides application and venue information, and shares participant testimonials and research on outcomes. Its site also invites people to volunteer time to help test rationality techniques. An upcoming four-day workshop is listed for September 30 to October 4, 2026, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
