## Description

The Railway & Canal Historical Society (RCHS) is a membership organisation dedicated to researching, preserving and sharing the history of transport, with a particular focus on railways and waterways. Its work also spans road transport, air transport, pipelines, materials handling and other aspects of modern transport history. Members and visitors can explore research resources, historical photographs, maps, databases, chronologies, bibliographies and archives, including the RCHS Journal and its archive. The Society publishes books and journal supplements, offers online lectures and videos, and organises events, conferences, regional group activities and specialist interest groups. Its website provides research guidance, links to historical sources, media resources and information about transport history anniversaries. The RCHS also recognises transport-history publications through its annual book awards and operates a shop selling books. Membership provides access to publications and selected resources, including members-only databases and guidance materials. Through its publications, collections and activities, the Society supports enthusiasts, researchers and anyone interested in understanding the development and legacy of transport.
