## Description

Recovering Communities of Step Ahead (RCOSA) is a privately funded, federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization serving people in recovery in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. Founded on October 17, 1992, RCOSA provides a safe, structured, and supportive community for men and women transitioning from treatment. Its post-treatment services combine community-based sober living with programming intended to help residents build a lasting foundation for sobriety.

Residents have access to fully furnished apartments and private rooms, offering personal space within a supportive living environment. RCOSA describes its approach as helping residents learn a new way of living and works toward the goal of supporting each resident in achieving at least one year of continued sobriety. The organization emphasizes treating people with respect, dignity, and grace, and presents its community as more than housing: it is an opportunity for change and connection. RCOSA is supported by donors, families, and friends, and its website also references a Thursday night AA meeting. The organization welcomes inquiries and donations to support its community and programming.
