## Description

The Library of Congress, located in Washington D.C., is an esteemed institution that aims to promote literacy and encourage reading. Through their Literacy Awards program, they recognize and honor organizations that have made exceptional contributions to literacy, both in the United States and abroad. Since its inception in 2013, the program has awarded over $3 million in prizes to more than 150 institutions in 38 countries. The awards serve to draw public attention to the significance of literacy and support collaborations among non-profit organizations. The program offers three major prizes: the David M. Rubenstein Prize ($150,000) for an organization that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to increasing literacy levels, the American Prize ($50,000) for organizations in the United States, and the International Prize ($50,000) for organizations outside the United States. Additionally, successful practices honorees receive $5,000 each. By applying, organizations can further their mission, gain public recognition, and join an esteemed network of past winners and honorees.
