## Description

“Kітап оқитын ұлт” (“Reading Nation”) is a national educational initiative in Kazakhstan that promotes a lasting reading culture and develops critical and analytical thinking. Its mission is to encourage citizens to build regular reading habits from childhood and help Kazakhstan become one of the world’s ten most avid reading nations. The project welcomes participants across seven tracks, including school pupils, college and university students, educators, families, public servants and intellectuals.

Its six-month reading marathon, scheduled for September 2026 to March 2027, challenges participants to read 15 books, submit reviews and progress through selection stages. Participants earn points for books, video reviews and keeping to the suggested reading schedule, with intellectual competitions and a final award event offering valuable prizes, diplomas and public recognition. The project’s website supports registration and provides reading lists, participation rules, leaderboards, reviews, news and information for participants. It also highlights books in Kazakh and translated literature, making the marathon accessible to readers with varied interests. Registration is free for citizens of Kazakhstan.
