## Description

Realms of Despair is a free, original SMAUG MUD offering a richly developed medieval fantasy world for text-based online roleplaying. Players can explore more than 250 original areas and create characters from a wide selection of races and classes, including prestige classes. Available classes range from familiar choices such as Cleric, Mage, Ranger, and Warrior to distinctive options like Augurer, Fathomer, Nephandi, and Vampire. The game also features guilds, orders, sects, tribal bands, clans, and nation-based roleplay organizations, giving players multiple ways to shape their characters’ affiliations and stories. Character appearance can be customized during creation, and equipment varies according to level, gender, class, race, and alignment. The website supports new and returning players with a New Player’s Guide, game information, commands, laws, stories, maps, and community resources. Players can connect using a telnet or MUD client, or use the site’s web client. Downloads include MUD clients, GUI plugins, the SMAUG codebase, and a building guide.
