## Description

Récupération Mauricie operates a materials-sorting centre in Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, Quebec, processing recyclable materials collected through curbside recycling programs. Founded in 2004 through a partnership between Énercycle and Groupe RCM, the organization is a service provider for Éco Entreprises Québec. Its mission combines recycling with inclusive employment, welcoming people from diverse backgrounds and supporting their contributions to the team.

Following a complete modernization in 2024, the centre uses optical sorters equipped with spectrometers and artificial intelligence to identify materials and direct them to the appropriate sorting streams. It also uses AI-enabled portals to analyze materials continuously, providing real-time data that helps staff monitor performance and adjust equipment. The facility can process 37,500 metric tonnes of recyclable materials annually, more than twice its original capacity. The 2024 upgrade involved an investment of $14 million and maintained the same number of jobs. Through advanced sorting technology and a people-centred approach, Récupération Mauricie works to improve the recovery of materials from the blue recycling bin.
