## Description

Red Box Wildlife Shelter is an ACNC-registered charity based in Elphinstone, Victoria, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing native wildlife. Founded by Nikki Hansen after she cared for an orphaned kangaroo joey named Mr Boo, the shelter’s primary focus is the Eastern Grey Kangaroo. It also accepts other native animals and transfers them to specialist carers when needed. Its property is devoted largely to native bushland, providing a calm setting for wildlife recovery.

The organisation receives no government funding and relies on donations and community support to provide food, medicine and veterinary treatment for orphaned, injured and sick animals. Supporters can make one-off gifts or sponsor a joey or a kangaroo requiring acute care; sponsorship begins at $2 a week and includes a personalised certificate. The shelter also offers volunteer opportunities, a wish list for needed supplies and monthly open days at its onsite clinic. Through the free Mr Boo’s Roo Rangers program, people of all ages can learn about kangaroos and become advocates for their protection.
