Founded as a shelter for donkeys, the refuge has grown over nearly 30 years to care for around 150 rescue animals of different kinds, each with an individual story. Its mission is to provide animals with safety, respect, and compassion, while finding permanent, happy homes for those who can be adopted. Adoption is only part of the refuge’s work. Many animals are elderly, sick, have disabilities, or are not suited to adoption, and Refugio dos Burros provides them with lifelong care. The team aims to give every animal a comfortable and fulfilling life, whatever their circumstances. The refuge also welcomes volunteers and invites supporters to donate, as contributions help keep the shelter operating and support the animals in its care.
