## Description

The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is a statutory body under India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, established to support and regulate rehabilitation and special education services. Founded as a registered society in 1986, it became a statutory body in 1993 under the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, enacted in 1992 and amended in 2000. Its mandate includes regulating and monitoring services for persons with disabilities, setting standards for training curricula, and maintaining the Central Rehabilitation Register of qualified rehabilitation and special education professionals. The Council also acts against unqualified individuals providing services in these fields.

RCI administers professional registration and continuing rehabilitation education services, including CRR registration, CRE programmes, and related online applications. Through the National Board of Examination in Rehabilitation (NBER), it provides admission and examination information. The Council oversees approval and monitoring of training institutions and programmes, publishes guidelines and training resources, and offers public services such as forms, grievance redressal, notifications, recruitment information, and tenders.
