## Description

RENEW is an annual open-factory event showcasing the craft industries of the Echizen-Sabae area in Fukui Prefecture, Japan. Described as Japan’s largest event of its kind, it brings together approximately 120 local manufacturers and invites visitors to explore how traditional and contemporary goods are made. Featured industries include lacquerware, washi paper, cutlery, chests, pottery, eyeglasses, and textiles. Across three days, participating workshops and factories offer opportunities to see production firsthand, meet makers, and take part in hands-on activities. The program also includes factory tours, craft workshops, talks, local food experiences, and events highlighting the region’s towns, people, and work. RENEW provides visitor information to help guests plan their trips, including maps, suggested routes, access guidance, and details about shuttle buses, taxis, bicycle rentals, and parking. Some tours and activities may require advance reservations. Through its event program and practical travel resources, RENEW connects visitors with local creators and the craftsmanship, manufacturing heritage, and community of Echizen-Sabae.
