## Description

Report for America is a national service program that strengthens local journalism by placing emerging journalists in newsrooms across the country. Its corps members report on under-covered issues and communities, helping bring important local stories to light and hold powerful institutions accountable. The organization works with a diverse range of host newsrooms, including newspapers, digital outlets, public media organizations, television and radio stations, and nonprofit newsrooms.

For participating newsrooms, Report for America recruits journalists with relevant skills, contributes roughly half of their salary, and helps partners fundraise. The program also provides resources and support intended to help local news organizations build sustainable reporting capacity. Journalists can apply to become corps members, while newsrooms can seek to host a reporter and identify the beats they need covered. Report for America shares reporting produced by its journalists, including investigations and community-focused work on issues such as youth solitary confinement, health equity, homelessness, culture, and displacement.
