GAPs is a brand focused on studying the drivers of return policies and barriers/enablers in international cooperation on returns. The project aims to analyze the gaps between expectations of return policies and their actual outcomes by challenging the traditional understanding of "return policymaking." By using a decentering approach and innovative concepts, GAPs explores governance fissures, EU MSs' relations with third countries, and the agency of migrants within return processes. Through multi-disciplinary research in 11 countries, GAPs creates impactful outcomes such as interactive data repositories, policy briefs, workshops, and digital storytelling. The project seeks to suggest alternative pathways for existing return policies and enhance cooperation through stakeholder engagement. By contributing to resilient governance models for global migration and returns, GAPs plays a crucial role in shaping legal frameworks, monitoring mechanisms, and cooperation strategies for safe and dignified returns on a global scale.
