# Rkcmpd Eria - **Website:** - **Primary alias:** `rkcmpd-eria.org` ## Description Rkcmpd Eria, also known as the Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris (RKC-MPD), is an information clearinghouse under the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). Established in 2019, RKC-MPD aims to provide support to the ASEAN+3 Member States in addressing the challenges posed by marine plastic debris. Knowledge sharing and capacity development on marine plastic debris have been identified as crucial by the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and other stakeholders. Recognizing this need, the ASEAN+3 Summit in 2018 endorsed the ASEAN+3 Marine Plastics Debris Cooperative Action Initiative, which emphasized the utilization of existing institutions like ERIA. With the financial backing of the Government of Japan, ERIA established the RKC-MPD in October 2019 to serve as an information hub for marine plastic debris in the ASEAN+3 region.
