The main objective of this mega project is to provide electricity services to the entire country, including marginal areas. RPCL selected the site at Kalapara Upazilla in Patuakhali District after a thorough feasibility study and environmental impact assessment. The project involves the construction of a jetty and coal handling facilities, power plant, township, transmission facilities, and road communication. The power plant will be operated using Ultra-Super Critical Technology with high-quality coal imported from Indonesia and Australia. The construction progress of the plant is impressive, with 60% of development already completed. Temporary facilities are fully functional, and the main components are being manufactured in China. A residential township has been developed for displaced families, and a dedicated site office with all necessary amenities is in place. With approximately 2500 people working on the project, it is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.
