## Description

Roanoke Budo Kai is an Aikido dojo in Roanoke, Virginia, founded by Chris Gaston in 1994. The dojo provides safe, challenging, and supportive training, welcoming new students and visiting aikidoka of all experience levels. Its patch reflects the dojo’s connection to the Roanoke Valley, while bamboo symbolizes Aikido’s flexibility and movement and a crane represents the art’s Japanese origins.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that teaches self-defense through efficient body movements rather than strength, redirecting and diffusing the force of an attack. Roanoke Budo Kai’s classes are suitable for people of any age, gender, or fitness level. Students train seriously, support one another, and enjoy the practice together.

The dojo offers two weekly classes through the Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Department. This partnership helps reduce fees and supports the belief that Aikido should be accessible to everyone. Classes are open to beginners through black belts, and students may join without waiting for a new session to begin. Visitors can contact the dojo for details or attend a class.
