## Description

Rovaniemen Melojat ry is a paddling club based in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, founded in 1985. It focuses on touring and whitewater paddling, with kayaking at the heart of its activities and canoeing also available on a smaller scale. The club’s outings take members across the region’s rivers and lakes, as well as to the sea; individual members also travel on paddling trips beyond Finland. Its programme includes regular group paddles, longer excursions, paddling technique instruction, water-safety training and whitewater courses. To introduce newcomers to the sport, the club holds open paddling events and several beginner courses each summer. It also trains paddling instructors and guides, supporting local expertise in the north. Whitewater competition is another part of club life, particularly freestyle and boatercross events. Members can practise and develop their technique during indoor swimming-pool sessions in winter. The club provides members with a range of kayaks and other paddling equipment, making it possible to take part without first buying personal gear. It welcomes new paddlers interested in joining.
