About

Description

The Federació Andorrana de Rugby (Andorran Rugby Federation) was established in 1986 with the aim of developing and promoting rugby in Andorra on an international level. As a full member of the FIRA-AER (International Rugby Amateur Federation) since the congress in Berlin in 1986, Andorra has made significant strides in the sport. Their first official match took place on November 8, 1987, against the Luxembourg national team, resulting in a victorious Andorran score of 22-3.

Over the years, the FAR has competed in official competitions organized by the FIRA and the IRB, including the FIRA Cup and the Rugby World Cup qualifications for 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015. Andorra's impressive performance during the RWC 2007 qualifiers in France saw them reach the third phase for the first time in history, showcasing their high level of competitiveness. The FAR has also participated in the Junior World Championships in 1996 and 2000.

Since 1996, Andorra has been involved in official rugby sevens tournaments, making significant progress and reaching the European Championship final in Moscow in 2006, establishing themselves as one of the top 12 European national teams in this format. Despite its size and sporting limitations, Andorra has consistently surprised opponents from countries such as Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Romania, Morocco, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Moldova, Lithuania, and Sweden. These outstanding results have earned Andorra recognition from the IRB and international media, earning the title “The Smallest Country in the Rugby World,” as described in the IRB publication Kickoff in 1999.

The achievements and development of Andorran rugby in recent years have been acknowledged by the IRB and global media, as Andorra had the honor of hosting the first RWC 2007 qualifying matches against Norway in September 2004, resulting in an Andorran victory. With a rich history and impressive achievements, the Federation Andorrana de Rugby continues to promote and nurture the sport in Andorra, showcasing the dedication and passion of its players, coaches, and supporters
