## Description

RuneS is a pioneering research project based at the Niedersächsische Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen, dedicated to the exploration of the runic script, the earliest independently developed writing system in the Germanic languages. The project aims to systematically investigate various runic inscriptions, encompassing regional and chronological aspects across Europe. Through its online database, RuneS-DB, users can access a wealth of scientifically verified data on runic finds, including descriptions of the inscriptions, contextual backgrounds of the finds, and detailed geographic information.

The platform features a user-friendly interface that caters to both general users and researchers, offering standard queries alongside advanced functions for specialized navigation. Currently in beta, the website provides initial access to extensive datasets, including over 8,000 images and maps of runic artifacts from various collections. Intended for a diverse audience, RuneS aims not only to educate but also to facilitate further scholarly research into the significance of runes within European history.
