## Description

Ryukyu Bugei is an independent research and publishing project led by Andreas Quast, focused on the history, practice, and cultural heritage of Ryukyuan, or Okinawan, martial arts. From 2011 to 2024, its website published more than 900 articles, including original translations, rare historical sources, and in-depth analysis designed to make reliable information accessible to English-speaking readers. The work connects martial arts practice with documented history and the wider Okinawan cultural context.

Ryukyu Bugei’s publications include books on traditional fighting practices. Its 2024 release, Bo: Techniques, Forms, and Partner Practices of Ancient Okinawan Fighting Traditions, Volume 1: Bo-odori, examines Okinawan staff techniques, forms, and partner practices. The project also shares research and updates through Patreon, where supporters can access exclusive material and engage with its work. Andreas Quast continues the mission through publications, seminars, and ongoing research, helping students, instructors, and readers explore Okinawan martial traditions through historical sources and culturally grounded perspectives.
